Sexual Assault: What Every Nurse Should Know

featuring Analena M. Lunde, DNP, RN, A/P-SANE

Live: Wednesday, February 06, 2019 @ 2:00 pm CT

  • Description
  • Objectives
  • Presenters
Sexual assault includes victims of all races, genders, sexual orientations, and ages. Victims of violence are in a vulnerable state and usually are struggling with internal and external issues related to the unwelcomed stress. Less than half of emergency departments screen victims for sexual assault leading to significant missed opportunities to assist victims. This webinar will apply trauma-informed principles of care and education to assist the healthcare professional in any setting. The student will learn to improve their skills in identifying suspicious cases, assessment, and reporting to facilitate coordination of supportive resources for short and long-term recovery. This program would expand the healthcare professional’s knowledge and role as advocate for the victim.
Objectives
  • Define and recognize signs of sexual assault and/or abuse.
  • Follow a trauma-informed algorithm of care in order to identify, document, and report findings.
  • Identify state and local resources to refer victims for medical and specialized support services.
