Competency-based education models provide a framework for faculty and students to better assess and measure attainment of course and program competencies. Utilizing the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties toolkit on competency based evaluation and the Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies Content, along with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice essentials to form the framework for graduate clinical learning and evaluation provides clearly defined expectations and measurement. This webinar with provide examples of how to develop and utilize competency-based clinical assessment tools.

Susan J. Kimble, DNP, RN, ANP-BC

Susan_J_Kimble_DNP_RN_ANP-BCDr. Susan Kimble is a Clinical Associate Professor and the program director for the MSN and DNP programs at UMKC, responsible for the program’s curriculum development, review and revisions, guiding the transition plan of study for the BSN to DNP program, after leading development of the post MSN to DNP program in 2006, the first DNP program in the State of Missouri. Dr Kimble has taught in a variety of MSN and DNP courses and is responsible for advising and guiding DNP student projects as chair of the DNP faculty committee. Susan maintains an active internal medicine practice. Her research focus includes healthy lifestyle programs looking at health promotion and risk reduction of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, taking place in several urban community sites with senior citizens and underserved families. Susan has presented on a variety of topics related to graduate education including student evaluation in classroom and clinical settings, preparing graduate nursing students for success, collaboration between the DNP and PhD roles, and interprofessional education project outcomes at the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, Sigma Theta Tau International, and American Association of Colleges of Nursing, Collaborating Across Borders IV and All Together in Better Health conferences.
