Examining Grade Inflation in Nursing Education

Jose Alejandro, PhD, RN-BC, MBA, FACHE, FAAN
Dr. Alejandro is the Director of Care Management at UC Irvine Health, a Level One Trauma and Magnet® designated academic medical center in Orange County, California. He is a prominent expert in case management and working with at-risk populations and is a hospital executive consultant with a focus on systems redesign and care coordination.
Dr. Alejandro was the 15th President (2012-2014) of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses. He is the President-Elect for the Case Management Society of America and Treasurer of the International Honor Society of Nursing Building Corporation of Sigma Theta Tau International. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Academy of Nursing.
Dr. Alejandro received his certificate in vocational nursing from South Plains College in Lubbock, Texas; BS in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington; MBA in healthcare management from the University of Dallas; MS in nursing from the University of Phoenix; and his PhD in human services from Capella University.
Since 2000, Dr. Alejandro has taught ADN, BSN, MSN, and DNP level courses in the traditional classroom, clinical, and online settings. He has taught courses in nursing foundations, nursing research, healthcare quality, nursing finance, administration, business management, and organizational behavior.

Rebecca (Becky) Rudel, PhD, MSN, RN-CNE
“Dr. Becky” is a seasoned nurse clinician and now also in her 31st year of an exciting career as nurse educator. She is currently an online professor of nursing with Minnesota State University, Moorhead where she has served as the Program Coordinator for their long-standing RN-BSN program. Most prior to this, she worked as a campus Dean for Rasmussen College’s national nursing program. With a doctorate in Teaching & Learning for Higher Education, Dr. Rudel has educational/experiential expertise in curriculum design, teaching/learning, online education, and curricular/programmatic assessment. In 2005, Becky was with the first credentialed as Certified Nurse Educators through NLN’s rigorous landmark examination. She is also credentialed as a Peer Reviewer for the international Quality Matters® nonprofit organization with a mission of maintaining and recognizing quality assurance in online learning. Becky has successfully led several programs (AS-PN through PhD) in NLNAC and CCNE accreditation processes. She serves as peer reviewer for the Nurse Educator and Nurse Education Perspectives journals. Dr. Rudel’s research/service passion relates to nurse workforce issues, resulting in numerous regional/national presentations and publications. Personally, Dr. Rudel’s passion is for supporting underserved populations, most recently serving in Haiti with a Nurse Tim delegation. She also delights in time with young grandchildren whenever possible.
