During this presentation, the characteristics of today's nursing students will be reviewed. The theory and practice supporting the use of audience response systems will be presented as a foundation for supporting implementation of the audience response system (ARS) in class. Participants will explore student engagement as a vital step towards critical thinking, clinical reasoning and developing a sense of ownership. The reported advantages and disadvantages ARS from the literature will be presented. Emphasis will be placed on low resource/budget ideas that help faculty implement and manage this important strategy.

  • Verbalize the advantages of implementing audience response technology in the classroom.
  • Identify how audience response systems can be implemented in the classroom.
  • Relate how audience response technology can facilitate improved satisfaction with teaching, learning, and assessment.

Developing new programs, innovations in learning, and helping programs internationally, he is an expert in bringing the evidence-base of nursing, healthcare, and education to students and faculty at all levels. Through consultations, writing, and mentoring, Dr. Bristol assists faculty in identifying the competencies needed to effectively enhance programs for optimal student outcomes. He has certification as a nurse educator, is a fellow in the Academy of Nursing Education, and is internationally known for bringing excitement through success to his colleagues and students. His motto: "Today we will learn how to learn."
