Mary Tarbox, EdD, RN

Mary_Tarbox_EdD_RNMary Tarbox, EdD, RN is a nurse educator with over 30 years of experience in administration and teaching at the baccalaureate and master’s level. With a background in public health nursing, she has experience in community health, school health and local public health agency oversight. In addition to teaching and administration, Mary has led the process of program accreditation several times and has served as an accreditation site evaluator for NLNAC and CCNE. This experience has been further enhanced with consultation activities and service on the review board for NLNAC in the past. Her interest focuses on program evaluation and the process of developing ongoing plans of evaluation and writing self-studies. While teaching master’s level students the intricacies of the role of the nurse educator, Mary has maintained an active role in the development of curriculum design and teaching/learning strategies. Her research interests are in nursing education and in nursing history. She has received the Lillian Brunner Fellowship for study at the Bates Center for the History of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania and has served on the board of directors of the American Association for the History of Nursing. Most recently Mary has chaired the Iowa Task Force on the Transformation of Nursing Education, RN to BSN, and has represented the task force on the Iowa Action Coalition, a state-wide effort to address the objectives of the IOM Report on the Future of Nursing. She has served on numerous non-profit agency boards, is a community volunteer and served on Senator Tom Harkins Nurse Advisory Committee. In Iowa she has been recognized among the 100 Great Nurses of 2008 and received the Teresa Christy Award from the Iowa Nurses Association.
